Digital Makerspace

There are computers and multifunction devices for printing, copying and scanning for customer use in the Pekuri Library. Some of the computers can be booked in the reservation service Varaamo. 

Ultimaker 3 Extended 3D Printer 

3D printers create physical objects from digital model files. Non-toxic and biodegradable PLA plastic is used as the printing material.  

With the Ultimaker 3 Extended Printer you can also create two-colored items and objects that require support structures. The PVA structure material makes the creation of more complex 3D prints possible. For two-colored 3D prints, please ensure that the model is designed to be two-colored. Black and white colors are available.  

In order to print, you need a 3D model file in STL form. Prepared models can be found at the address www.thingiverse.com.  

EinScan SP 3D Scanner 

Digital scanners create digital model files out of physical objects. The scan creates model files in STL form, so you can 3D print the models. With the EinScan SP Scanner, you can also create model files including surface textures on top of model files with just a shape.  

Material costs 

1 € per print. Please note that the use of the 3D printer is free of charge. 

GCC LaserPro C180II 

You can incise and cut different patterns and items with a laser cutter. The library’s own plywood materials can be used. The size of the plywood panels is 406 mm x 205 mm. 

The laser cutter uses the CorelDRAW Program with which you can create image files for cutting. CorelDRAW can read most image file forms. 

The device can only be used under staff supervision. 

The laser cutter can be on for a total of 30 minutes during one reservation, after which the device must cool down for one hour. One reservation includes 30 minutes for preparation, 30 minutes for using the device, and one hour of cooling down time. Please note that the device must not be on during the second hour of the reservation.

Roland CAMM-1-GR-540 

You can create unique one-colored stickers and fabric prints with the vinyl cutter. There are many colors available. The sticker material is suitable for many indoor and outdoor surfaces, such as windows, bicycles, laptop covers etc. The sticker material’s width is 122 cm. 

STAHLS’ Hotronix Air Fusion 

The vinyl material is pressed with a heat press onto fabric (for example a T-shirt or fabric bag). We recommend using cotton, polyester or a mix of the two. The vinyl material is available in many colors. The vinyl material’s width is 50 cm. 

The vinyl cutter requires a one-colored and high contrast JPEG image file, such as a logo or silhouette. EPS 7 and 8, as well as Illustrator 7 and 8 forms of vector files are suitable as well.

Brother VC-500 

You can create unique, colorful labels with the full color label printer. For example, you can utilize photos, logos, text, shapes, frames and color codes in designing your labels. The label printer can create labels, signs, crafts, package labels, business cards, guest cards, greeting cards and personal gift package labels.  

The label printer utilizes the ZINK® Zero-Ink® printing technology. Thanks to which the printer does not need any separate ink. The color is created with color crystals which are activated with heat. The label printer must be plugged into a computer with a USB cable. The label designs are made with the P-touch Editor Program.  

There are four label strips with different widths: 12 mm, 19 mm, 25 mm and 50 mm. The label printer is used with the same computer as the vinyl cutter. 

Material costs: 

12 mm or 19 mm label strip: 0,5 € per 10 cm 
25 mm or 50 mm label strip: 1 € per 10 cm. 

The Adobe Creative Cloud Program Package has been installed on the Digital Makerspace’s media workstation. You will need a free of charge Adobe account to utilize them (account.adobe.com). The package includes the following Adobe programs: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Premiere. 

Additionally, the workstation includes a Wacom Cintiq Pro 24" drawing pad and Epson Perfection V850 flatbed scanner. With the flatbed scanner, you can scan slides, negatives, photographs and documents with professional quality. Additionally, you can use the Plustek OpticFilm 82000i Scanner on request.  

The media workstation is only meant for drawing, photo editing, paging, video editing and other suitable digital work and more demanding scanning. For other computer needs, please book a normal computer. You can also use the multifunction device for scanning documents. 

Tascam CC-222SLmkII 

You can digitize compact cassettes and vinyl records onto a CD disc with the audio record digitizer. Using the digitizer is free of charge, but you will need your own storage medium. If needed, you can get a CD disc from the Library service point. 

The record player is operational again. (August 28, 2024) 

ScanPro1100 

Book your desired microfilms from the online library or via e-mail (yli-ii.kirjasto@ouka.fi) to be delivered to the Pekuri Library in good time ahead of your reservation. Information can be saved and scanned onto a USB memory stick. You may also print to the sizes of A4 and A3. Using the device is free of charge, but printing is subject to a charge.

Rexell Momentum X410 

You can use the cross-cutting paper shredder to dispose of A4 or smaller pieces of paper quickly and safely. The shredder’s security category is P-4, meaning that it shreds paper into pieces the size of 4x28 mm.  

Using the shredder is free of charge, and it can be used at Pekuri Library without reservation during the Library’s opening times.  

The Digital Makerspace includes other equipment as well which can be used without reservation. Ask more from the Digital Handymen! The equipment includes for example: 

• External DVD/Blu-ray player 

• Floppy disk reader 

• ID card reader 

• Different cables from file transfer
