Virpiniemi
Virpiniemi is located about 20 kilometers from the Oulu city centre in Haukipudas. The recreational area offers diverse exercise opportunities. The opportunities maintained by Oulu Sport Services are introduced on this page. The Virpiniemi Recreational Area is located along Virpiniementie.
Virpiniemi Ski Centre
Ski tracks

Virpiniemi Ski Centre is located in Haukipudas, in a versatile recreational and sports environment, about a 20-minute drive from the centre of Oulu. The ski centre serves as Oulu's competitive skiing centre, where regional and national skiing competitions are held.
The centre has a ski hut and a wide range of ski tracks and trails that are maintained daily. There are 5 km of lit ski tracks and competition tracks of 1, 2, 3 and 5 kilometers. Other fitness traisl include a 10 km trail and the trails Virpiniemi-Kirkonkylä 6 km and Virpiniemi-Kiviniemi 4 km. The 10 km ski trail has a guided cross-country ski trail to Runteli lean-to (about 2 km).
The area also has a variety of sledding hills and several campfire sites.

First snow track
The first snow track will open in the fall of 2025.
Ski jumping hills
Virpiniemi includes two ski jumping hills maintained by Oulu Sport Services.
Meriniemi Beach
Meriniemi Beach is located in Virpiniemi (Hedmanssonintie 10).
Campfire sites
There are two roofed campfire sites near the parking area.
Sledding hill
The sledding hill in Virpiniemi was renovated in 2024. The hill is located along the right-hand side footpath starting from the parking area.
Top cabin
The Virpiniemi top cabin can be rented from Oulu Sport Services. The top cabin includes two dressing rooms for approximately 50 people, two saunas, a meeting room and a small kitchen.

Outdoor fitness park and stairs
Virpiniemi Outdoor Fitness Park is located at Virpiniementie 548. The park has a dozen different types of equipment. There are also outdoor fitness equipment in the yard of the nearby college.
Frisbee golf
There is an 18-hole frisbee golf course in Virpiniemi. The course is suitable for beginners and somewhat experienced players.
