Hartaansilta
A bicycle and pedestrian bridge connecting Hartaanranta and Vaakunanranta's Housing Fair area (Lehtokylä and Vaakunakylä) brings new opportunities for using the river delta and the recreation paths of the area in even more versatile ways. The bridge transforms the urban environment in Oulu, offers places for stopping to observe marine nature, and facilitates the daily commute of the city residents between the neighborhoods of Hietasaari and Tuira.
The bridge is a two-span steel arch bridge that creates a light bird-like figure to the landscape of the Oulujoki river delta as a landmark in the new residential area of Hartaanselänranta. The bridge will be in its full glory in 2026, as Oulu becomes the European Capital of Culture, when it will be illuminated.
The Hartaansilta bridge was designed by engineer consultant firm Pontek Oy that won the design competition organized in 2021 by the unanimous decision of the jury with their entry Siivenkantama. The bridge is innovative in its technical implementation and unique as a landmark in Oulu. In addition to Pontek Oy, the working group that prepared the winning entry also included architecture firm Ylitys Oy, landscape architect firm Maanlumo Oy, VALOA design Oy responsible for lighting design and engineering firm Profund Oy responsible for geotechnics.
Construction began in summer 2023 and the bridge will be completed by the Housing Fair event in summer 2025. Steel Group Pohjanmaa Oy and YIT Suomi Oy are responsible for the construction of the bridge. The bridge's steel structures are manufactured in Oulu at the Steel Group Pohjanmaa factory next to the Housing Fair area.
