The bio waste sorting obligation is in effect – you can still join separate collection
The bio wase sorting obligation concerning detached houses and one-family houses in urban areas is now in effect since July 19, 2024. You can fulfil the bio waste sorting obligation by ordering a separate waste bin for bio waste or by composting bio waste.
The waste management company Kiertokaari Oy owned by municipalities is responsible for bio waste collection in Oulu from residential properties as well as for the customer service and invoicing of bio waste services.
The change has been made due to updated waste legislation. The citizen or housing company can no longer make a contract about bio waste collection directly with a waste transport company. The same change concerns the collection of cardboard, glass, plastic packaging and small metal waste.
Notify Kiertokaari about joining bio waste collection
You can still join Kierokaari’s bio waste separate collection even though the obligation is already in effect. During the fall, Kiertokaari will contact property owners who the obligation concerns but have not chosen a bio waste separation solution.
Please notify Kiertokaari about your joining the bio waste collection primarily by filling in the online form, or by phone tel. 08 5584 0020 (Mon–Fri 8–16). Delays in delivering small bio waste bins
Delivering 80-liter or smaller bio waste bins offered by Kiertokaari from Central Europe are delayed. A new batch will most likely be delivered around mid-August. Larger bio waste bins are available.
If the customer’s bin delivery is delayed and thus bio waste must be sorted with mixed waste, the customer will not be fined or face other consequences.
Invoicing will begin once the bio waste bin has been delivered.
