Environmental Protection Regulations

The goal of the environmental protection regulations is to prevent environmental contamination as well as to remove and decrease harm caused by contamination considering local conditions. The regulations concern, among other things, wastewater treatment, fuel and chemical storage, the reduction of noise and shaking as well as air pollution control.

The regulations are in effect in all municipalities in the city of Oulu, Hailuoto, Kempele, Liminka, Lumijoki, Muhos and Tyrnävä. The regulations apply to everyone, all companies, communities, authorities and private individuals. Read more about the regulations and their justifications below.

The Oulu region's environmental protection regulations have been updated. The updated regulations will come into effect on February 1, 2025.

Oulu Regional Waste Management Regulations

Oulu’s regional waste management regulations are in effect in Hailuoto, Ii, Kempele, Lumijoki and Pudasjärvi on top fo Oulu). The Environment Office of the Oulu Region supervises the following of the regulations in Hailuoto, Kempele, Lumijoki and Oulu.
