Composting Notification

The composting notification must be made to the Waste Management Authority. Filing the composting notification is based on the Waste Act. The notifications are filed in a registry administered by the Waste Management Authority. The notifications are used to supervise the realization of recycling and to ensure that insufficient composting does not cause, for example, rat problems.

The notification requires the following pieces of information:

  • The property’s address

  • Name and contact information of the property holder

  • Name and contact information of the party filing the composting notification and the party responsible for the composting.

  • The property’s building type, is the property a detached house, semi-detached house, row house or apartment.

  • The maker, type and volume of the compost bin. If the compost bin is self-made, write a short description about its temperature insulation and how the access of pests to the compost bin is prevented.

  • How long has the compost bin been in use.

  • If the compost bin is being used by multiple properties, the addresses of the other properties participating in the shared composting must be filed.

The compost notification can be filed via the city of Oulu’s online service. Filing the notification requires registration. After registration or logging in, you will find the composting notification under “Ympäristövalvonta”: “Kompostointi-ilmoitus”.

The online service is only provided in Finnish. If this is a problem, the composting notification can also be filed via e-mail to the address: komposti.ilmoitus@ouka.fi

Or you may file it via phone call to the number 044 703 3961
