The industrial action by trade unions (Jyty, JHL and JUKO) on 6 to 7 April 2022 will shut down nearly all City of Oulu daycare centres and family daycare
Due to the industrial conflict, we will be forced to limit the provision of services, primarily to families with one guardian at home, or who due to the nature of their studies or work do not absolutely require care for their child.
Services will be provided only to the children of those employed in duties critical to the functioning of society, including social services and health care, fire and rescue services, and police personnel. To provide services, we require both guardians, or the one guardian in single-guardian families, be employed in these critical duties during the strike.
The following daycare centres remain open on 6 to 7 April:
Eastern Oulu:
- Kiiminkijoki daycare centre
- Hintta daycare centre
Southern Oulu:
- Pitkäkangas daycare entre
- Kuukkeli daycare centre (extended hours)
- Savotta-aukio daycare centre
- Maikkula daycare centre
Middle Oulu:
- Varpula daycare centre
- Värttö daycare centre
- Kisakenttä daycare centre
Northern Oulu:
- Ruiskukka daycare centre
- Länsituuli daycare centre
- Kuivasjärvi daycare centre
The supervisor of your child’s daycare centre or family daycare location will provide more specific information on what location will provide services during the strike, and that location’s opening hours.
The hours of the daycare centres that remain open may need to be shortened. The daycare centres that remain open serve meals normally.
In the daycare centres that remain open, only a small fraction of the employees of that unit will be working, along with employees transferred from other daycare centres. The usual familiar personnel will not be present, and groups will be made up ad hoc of the children who attend.
The daycare centres will observe personnel norms set out in the Early Childhood Education Act during the strike. The daycare centre manager will assess the number of children who can be safely taken in to daycare in consideration of the law and the safety of the children.
If the strike is called off, daycare centres and family daycare will be open normally
If the strike is called off, daycare centres and family daycare work as normal. If you have made other arrangements for the care of your children on 6 to 7 April at our request, and cannot cancel those arrangements on short notice, we will be reimbursing the previously notified days of absence in your client fees.
Information on the cancellation of the industrial action may arrive even at a very late hour. Therefore, we request that guardians keep informed in the days and evenings preceding the strike through the mass media and the City of Oulu website.
We ask families to please bear with us in these difficult circumstances.
Thanking you for your cooperation,
Miia Kemppi, Director of Early Childhood Education
