Citizens of Oulu used the city’s sports services for a record-breaking amount in 2024

The city of Oulu’s exercise facilities saw a record number of users in 2024. The number of Senior Card uses also exceeded the previous records.  

During 2024, Oulu’s indoor exercise facilities saw a total of 2 337 544 users. The total includes the users of swimming pools, Oulu Hall, ice hall, Heinäpää Football Stadium, sport centres, Kastelli Community Centre, Vorelli Exercise Hall and the Garrison Exercise Hall. I comparison to the record year 2018, preceding the COVID years, there were approximately 100 000 more uses. 

Senior Cards for citizens over 65 were more popular than ever: there were over 280 000 Senior Card uses in 2024. That is 25 000 more in comparison to last year. Senior Cards can be used to swim or use the fitness gym during the day on weekdays and freely during open times on weekends. 

“We are extremely happy to have achieved such an impressive number on our 100th anniversary. The exercise facility user numbers prove that customers consider the city’s sport services as their own, and our services meet their needs. The user numbers also show that our investments in senior exercise have been the correct”, Sport Director Niina Epäilys states.
