Oulu Writers Association
The Oulu Writers Association is an association of professional authors. Its members are authors in Northern Ostrobothnia who have released books through commercial publishers. The primary goal of the Oulu Writers Association is to promote the working opportunities of authors in Oulu and Northern Ostrobothnia, to build a community of writers in the region and promote the benefit of the region’s authors. The association maintains the Oulu Writers House, produces literature events, organizes the Oulu Book Fair in July, grants the annual Botnia Literature Award and implements the perennial Literature Project which is part of Oulu’s European Capital of Culture year 2026.

Huutomerkki ry.
Huutomerkki ry (Fin. exclamation point) is a writers association in Oulu founded in 2003. Its goal is to highlight northern literature, develop the quality and contents of writing as well as overall promote literature as a hobby in Northern Finland. Anyone interested in writing and northern culture may join as member. Huutomerkki ry. regularly organizes literature events, such as literature clubs in cafés and restaurants and cooperates with organizations such as Oulu City Library. The association’s writing workshops are perfect for writing and poetry.
Oulu Comics Centre
Oulu Comics Centre is a centre for northern comics. The principle of the Centre is to promote awareness of comics and highlight comics and their creators. Oulu Comics Centre maintains the Comic Library Sarjasto together with the Oulu City Library. The Centre is located at Culture Centre Valve.
Reading activities by the Parishes
Oulu’s Parishes also participate in promoting the joy of reading and creating opportunities to experience stories. Pappilan kirjapidot events bring together Finnish authors and readers.
