City of Many Libraries
Oulu is a city of many libraries and there are always libraries close by. In addition to the Oulu City Library’s local libraries, there are school libraries and libraries of other institutions. Did you know that there are at least 89 libraries in Oulu? Oulu City Library also has two mobile libraries, Kauno and Onneli.
Some of Oulu’s special libraries are also OUTI Libraries. With an OUTI library card, you can borrow material from the Oulu City Libraries, school libraries, the Byström One-Stop Guidance Centre’s library, the Oulu Film Centre library and the Oulu Comics Centre library.
- The Oulu City Library has the widest library network in Finland after Helsinki: 24 libraries. Oulu City Library was a finalist for the Library of the Year award in 2022. The Oulu City Library’s first self-service library was opened in 2014. Now, there are 15 libraries with self-service hours.
- There are two mobile libraries in Oulu. The Mobile Library Kauno is also a multi-purpose vehicle and has a 5G network.
- Oulu School Library (in Finnish) was founded in 2002. In 2024, Oulu had 55 school library service points.
