Oulu is the largest owner of municipal forests in Finland. Multiple use forests are managed as part of a comfortable living environment. Opportunities for recreational use of forests are increased by maintaining hiking, nature and forest trails, resting areas and campfire sites, and by managing urban forests by thinning.
The aim of the management of water bodies and especially fishing waters is to enable opportunities for recreational fishing and fishing for personal use for the city's residents, manage the city's compulsory stockings, take care of migratory fish stocks and carry out voluntary stockings of the owners of water areas to maintain fish stocks. The goal for the quality of water bodies is an ecologically good state.
