World Children’s Week begins on November 18 – Oulu’s main event is the Day of Joy in the Oulu Hall on November 20
World Children’s Week is held from November 18–24. The World Children’s Day is Wednesday November 20. The theme of the week this year is every child’s right to education. For the third time in Oulu, the week’s main event will be the free of charge Day of Joy in the Oulu Hall on November 20 at 15.00–19.00.
Oulu celebrates World Children’s Week as a UNICEF Child-Friendly City. The city of Oulu received its third Child-Friendly City commendation this year.
World Children’s Week’s main event will be the free of charge Day of Joy event for the whole family organized in the Oulu Hall on Wednesday November 20, at 15.00–19.00. The Day of Joy celebrates children’s rights with multiple activities and performances. The event is organized in cooperation with the association of parishes and several organizations, including approximately 40 operators. Last year, the Day of Joy saw approximately 3 000 attendees.
This year, the city of Oulu’s Youth Services will coordinate a Park Lunch in the Oulu Hall for the first time. Food will be offered for two hundred children and young people under 18 years old. Additionally, the Oulu Hall will have several sale stalls indoors and sausage stalls outdoors.

The national Bring your child to work day will be held on Friday November 22. Children will be visiting several of the city’s places of work.
Every year, the World Children’s Day is held on November 20 in Finland and all over the world in honor of the UN Conventions on the Rights of the Child being approved.
