Programme for Lumo Light Festival on 22–24 November published
The programme for the Lumo Light Festival has been published and can be found on the Lumo website lumo.ouka.fi.
The Lumo Light Festival is an event organised by the City of Oulu to bring joy and light to people during the darkest time of the year.
The festival is open from 22 to 24 November 2024, daily from 16:00 to 22:00.
This year, the route of installations and artworks will feature 15 works, and there will also be side events around Oulu.
The theme of the festival is dialogue, which is highlighted in several works. The artists include international experts as well as students from Oulu.
One of the highlights of this year's festival is a multimedia installation on the facade of Oulu City Hall and in front of the building, designed by Niko Tiainen who is pursuing an international career.
- We wanted to celebrate the opening of Oulu City Hall after its renovation in a special way. We trusted Niko Tiainen because we have followed his career and seen the stunning works he has created. The festival audience may remember his 2022 piece ”Translucens” projected on water mist at Lumo, which was one of our most popular works that year, says Jarkko Halunen, Head of Events.
As usual, the festival area will extend beyond the city centre to the Hupisaaret Park, where two works with laser lights will be displayed among others, including ”Amnesia” by Cristian Rizzuti from Italy and Julian Alvarez from Spain, and ”Divine Geometry” by Those Guys Lighting from Latvia.
Two works will remain on display after the festival weekend: the collaborative ”Let It Bloom!” at Valve will be on show until Epiphany next year and ”Under Pressure” on Rotuaari until 1 December.
This year's festival will feature a record number of stalls offering hot drinks and snacks. This is the 12th edition of the Lumo Light Festival.
