The city of Oulu’s Sustainable Development Special Recognition Award to Kestävän kehityksen keskus
The Environment Office of the Oulu Region’s board of directors has granted the 2024 Sustainable Development Special Recognition Award to the activities of Kestävän kehityksen keskus (Yritetään yhdessä ry). The award is granted for promoting diverse and long-term sustainable lifestyles in a participatory and environmentally responsible manner.
Their activities have grown and developed into diverse work coaching over the years. It centres human wellbeing, participation and environmental responsibility. Sustainable lifestyle can be seen in their service and project contents, such as building footbridges, landscape pasturing, and the maintenance of allotment gardening. Their activities include, for example, bicycle repair, sewing, salvage collection, and environmental care work.
The Sustainable Development Special Recognition Award is a commendation for creditable and exemplary activities that follow the principles of sustainable development. Another goal of the award is to increase the environmental awareness of citizens and encourage inhabitants to act according to sustainable development goals. This year, the award recipient is additionally granted a three thousand (3 000) € monetary prize and a diploma.
The award granting was updated in 2024 so that the citizens in the Environment Office of the Oulu region’s area of activity got to suggest a winner for the award. A total of 39 suggestions were given. The suggestions for Kestävän kehityksen keskus highlighted practicality, employment and the promotion of circular economy in their activities.
