Finnish Language Teaching

In Villa Victor, you can study Finnish language in contact or distance teaching. All our courses are free of charge.
The courses run nonstop throughout the year, so you can join them at any time. You can study Finnish from elementary level to advanced level.

Villa Victor also organizes courses by requirement, for example special courses in collaboration with the University of Oulu and International House Oulu.
Spring semester ends on Friday June 14th. Teaching starts again in August 19th. Registration for the autumn courses starts on August 5th.

Course contents and levels
Elementary level courses
Elementary level groups include three contact groups in classroom settings and one online group in Teams. The courses share the same content.
- Aletaan alusta ("Let's start") course is a short crash course. You will learn the important basics of Finnish language that are needed in order to manage in other elementary groups.
The contents of elementary courses K and S (contact teaching) and Alkeis-ilta, "Elementary Evening" (Teams) correspond approximately the competence level 0-A1 on The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Follow-up courses
Follow-up courses' contents correspond approximately the competence level A2 on The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
- Jatkokurssi ("Follow-up O and L") are contact teaching groups that you can attend for example after completing an elementary course. Two groups are in contact teaching (classroom), one is online (Teams)
- Suomea edistyneille ("Advanced Finnish") course is suitable for example for those who have completed their integration training or have acquired basic skills in Finnish language. The contents of the course correspond approximately the level B1 on The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
- Puhutaan suomea ("Let's Speak Finnish") is a conversation course where you practice the things learned in the advanced course with the help of various conversation, listening and vocabulary exercises. Starting level around B1.
YKI-treeni ja keskustelu ("YKI Training and Conversation") course's contents correspond approximately the level A2-B2 on The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. It corresponds the intermediate level of the National Certificate of Language Proficiency governed by the Finnish National Agency for Education. The course prepares you for the intermediate skill level YKI test. You will practice functional everyday Finnish and learn more about the YKI test.

Summer courses
Finnish Language Summer Courses
At Villa Victor, you can also study Finnish in the summer.
Summer teaching is organized from July 1st to August 9th both in the classroom and online (Teams).
Registration period 3.6.–16.6. Note! Registration has ended.
Classroom courses (Torikatu 10)
- Elementary summer on Mondays and Tuesdays at 10-12
- Follow-up summer on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10-12
Distance courses (Teams)
- Elementary Online on Mondays and Tuesdays at 13-15
- Follow-up Online on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 13-15

Registration for contact teaching:
You can register for contact courses by visiting the Villa Victor customer service desk at Oulu10, in the address Torikatu 10.
The customer service is open Mon-Fri from 10-15. The service desk is closed from May 31st until June 16th.

- Jatko-ilta ("Follow-up Evening") on Mondays and Wednesdays at 16-18

Declare your name and which course you wish to register to.
Also declare an email address that you want to use in the teaching group in Teams. You will receive a Teams link to that email.
