The Environment Office of the Oulu Region’s board of directors acts as the municipal authority of environmental protection, environmental health care and veterinary services.
The Environment Office’s area of responsibility includes seven municipalities: Hailuoto, Kempele, Liminka, Lumijoki, Muhos, Oulu and Tyrnävä. The area has 252 000 inhabitants, and its total area is 7 300 km². An agreement about the Office’s activities for the years 2021–2024 has been approved by the councils of the municipalities in late 2020. The activities are governed by the city of Oulu’s administrative regulations and continued delegation.
