Environment Office of the Oulu Region

The Environment Office of the Oulu Region’s board of directors acts as the municipal authority of environmental protection, environmental health care and veterinary services. 

The Environment Office’s area of responsibility includes seven municipalities: Hailuoto, Kempele, Liminka, Lumijoki, Muhos, Oulu and Tyrnävä. The area has 252 000 inhabitants, and its total area is 7 300 km². An agreement about the Office’s activities for the years 2021–2024 has been approved by the councils of the municipalities in late 2020. The activities are governed by the city of Oulu’s administrative regulations and continued delegation.  

The Environment Office of the Oulu Region’s authority activities is divided into three units and administrations: 

• Environmental protection 

• Environmental health care 

• Veterinary services 

The goal of the Environment Office of the Oulu Region is to ensure a pleasant and healthy living environment for the inhabitants of Oulu while preserving nature and its diversity.

The Environment Office of the Oulu Region’s administration and the units of environmental protection and health care are located at the Environment House, at the address Solistinkatu 2, 90140 Oulu. If you want face-to-face service, please make a reservation beforehand. Our work is mobile, so it is possible that we are not present at the Environment House at all times.

Charges 

The Environment Office of the Oulu Region’s charges and rates have been approved by the board of directors on June 12, 2024, § 71. 

The authority charges do not include VAT. Veterinary charges do include VAT. Invoicing takes place according to the city of Oulu’s procedures.

Publications and Control Plans 

The Environment Office of the Oulu Region publishes publications, reports, plans and other materials about environmental protection and health care. Annual air quality results and annual reports are published regularly, and different instructions are published in connection with different surveys and assessments.
