Oulu-opisto - Briefly in English

Oulu-opisto is a liberal education institution owned and run by the City of Oulu, offering hobby and study opportunities for people of all ages. With its dynamic environment Oulu-opisto provides opportunities to learn and have experiences at different stages of life. The core values of the institution are community, equality, subject diversity, cultural advocacy, and reliability. In addition to adult education services, Oulu-opisto provides basic education in the arts and arranges a wide array of cultural and arts events all around the newly expanded Oulu (i.e. in Pohjankartano hall in Oulu, Teatterikuoppa in Haukipudas and the Oulunsalo House in Oulunsalo). Oulu-opisto also has a sports school.

The institution is over 100 years old, founded in 1907 as Oulun työväenopisto (workers' college). The name Oulu-opisto was adopted in 1992. Oulu-opisto has become the fourth largest community college in Finland.

The following subjects are taught at Oulu-opisto: music, media arts, information technology, photography, history, people and society, handicrafts, writing, literary arts, theatre, home economics, seafaring, gardening, physical education, health, well-being, visual arts, design, dance and languages.
