Hartaanselänranta art program is the first art program created for an areal development site in Oulu, the implementation of which has been decided by the Oulu community board.

Art increases the comfort, safety and well-being of the residents of the living environment. The aim of the art program is for the artworks to become landmarks in Hartaanselänranta that accompany people on their life journeys and that future generations will also be able to enjoy.

Art is purchased for Oulu's Housing Fair area both through an art fund and the Percent for Art principle. The art fund consists of the share collected from the plot builders in Hartanselänranta and the share provided by the city of Oulu. The Percent for Art principle, implemented by the developerts of the area, has been a part of the planning of the Housing Fair area since the beginning.

The selection of artworks is guided by their quality and suitability for our northern city, and the artworks will be made by professional artists. The artists will be selected as the building of the area progresses and will be finished by 2025. Most commonly artist are selected through portfolio applications, but an art competition or a smaller-scale invitational competition can be ways to find a suitable artist for a specific project.

Moosa Myllykangas, an art coordinator and visual artist working under the art program's steering group, is responsible for implementing the program. The work is done on a long-term basis and our hope is that the artworks will last for a long time.
